One way or another, the Brady family has been in the plant business since 1961. It all started with Dick Brady digging up and selling aspen, fir, piñon, ponderosa, and spruce trees in the Westcliffe area. In 1969, Dick and his wife, Rhoda, moved to Cañon City and started Brady’s Evergreen Nursery where, in addition to growing and selling evergreen trees, they also grew and sold deciduous trees and shrubs. Twenty-five years later, the Bradys would buy a garden center in Cañon City and rename it Brady’s Garden Center. At the same time as their business was expanding, Dick and Rhoda were also raising a family–a large one–of 12 kids. Each of the Brady kids would work at the nursery after school and on Saturdays. Four of the Brady kids–Delwin, Derald, Dean, and Darren assumed the helm of the family business when Dick decided to retire in 1994. They formed Brady Brothers, Inc. shortly thereafter. In 2008, the Brady Brothers bought the former Denoyer’s nursery here in Salida and renamed it Brady’s West with Derald assuming responsibility for managing it.

Over the past 13 years, Brady’s West has grown from being a small nursery to a full-service garden and spa business. They have 18 greenhouses (for annuals, annuals in hanging baskets, vegetables, and herbs) and several other buildings, including a large retail center, a spa and patio showroom, and a perennial house. A large portion of their 8 acres is devoted to their two “yards”–one for trees and shrubs and one for bulk materials (soils, stone, rock and block). Brady’s West also provide complete landscaping services–from design through installation. They currently have 30 full-and part-time employees, whose sole purpose is to provide our customers with the highest level of professional service in the nursery industry.

Brady’s West is proud to be an active, engaged, and committed small business serving Salida and surrounding communities. They value their customers and pledge, now and in the future, to provide them with the finest plant and landscaping materials and outstanding personal attention to all of their landscaping needs and dreams.

“All of us at Brady’s West truly love what we do: beautifying our community one flower, one shrub, one tree at a time, and in the process, helping our customers to be happy and successful in their yards and gardens.”
