Integrated pest management (IPM), is a broad-based approach that integrates practices for the economic control of pests. IPM aims to suppress pest populations below the economic injury level rather than eliminate every pest insect. IPM emphasizes the growth of a healthy crop with the least possible disruption to agro-ecosystems and encourages natural pest control mechanisms.

Entomologists and ecologists have urged the adoption of IPM pest control since the 1970s. IPM allows for safer pest control. Beneficial insects (sometimes called beneficial bugs) are any of a number of species of insects that perform valued services like pollination and pest control.

Paonia Soil Co. has been using beneficial insects in our products for years, and we are now offering those good bugs, as well as many others, to you directly through our subscription program.

Using Beneficials Successfully

Introduce Early

One of the critical elements in using beneficials successfully is to introduce the predator bug before the pest becomes a problem. A way to think about it is that you are building a more natural eco system in your garden or green house that is predisposed to be hostile to your pests. This solution saves our growers thousands of dollars a year in pesticides and other chemical pest control products.

Follow the Instructions

Temperature and humidity will affect the success of your beneficials so please monitor those carefully. There will be instructions with your beneficials to help achieve the best results. Remember that your new friends will need to be put into your grow space as quickly as possible after they are received.
